Welcome all to 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿, the very first in a series of short weekly reviews by Charles Connolly - an artist in his own right. Here, Charles will be delving into the greatest brand new singles brought to you by the best unsigned artists on our electrifying and eclectic set of 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 playlists.

We start our journey with a possible future pop classic…

𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙨 - 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙮

A favourite among the ladies - both the song and the artist… This song is not - as I had assumed - a song about a sunburnt señorita, but in fact about a damned cool automobile, and has been expertly sculpted by the even cooler Elion Melody. Few of us can afford a Red Mercedes (or one of any other hue), but believe me, all of you can very much afford to listen to this powerful yet mellow song.

It starts straight in with thick and vibrant two-note guitar chords, sounding so sweet and perfect as they draw us in. Soon enough Elion slays us with a bright beat, deep bass and a melody that gets under one’s skin - in a good way…! Right off the bat, the thing that hit me the most was the absolutely seamless production and mixing. Right up there with the best of the best right now. Everything is - to quote Thom Yorke of Radiohead - in its right place. It all fits together like a German-made jigsaw.

Although Elion has opted for the use of a little autotune, it is evidently chosen for an effect rather than a tuning correction tool, as he is simply a stunning singer. The soul oozes from his lips so effortlessly while his tone is hushed yet present and persistent. Red Mercedes is great pop. Just how it is meant to be done these days; finely crafted, expertly produced and polished, yet with such soul and vibe.

One thing I do really like and appreciate is how the song doesn’t try too hard. It knows what it is. It understands where to lie, where to fly, where to move and where to groove, all like a steady pulse, grounded in pop. Nothing is saying “look at me” or “love me”. Elion Melody is effortlessly and naturally cool, which is very clear when listening to Red Mercedes. It may be pop, but it’s believable pop. Be prepared to be impressed and keep a look out for your coolest new found artist, Elion Melody, with his latest single, Tonight.
