This time, we get to know Bone Locker AKA Chris Mitchell, a folk, rock, americana singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist.

1. Tell us a little about where you are from and what you are currently doing.
Originally from New Mexico, but I have been living in Texas for 17 years. I am in the western part of the state in Lubbock, TX. The home of Buddy Holly!
2. What inspired you to start playing and making music?
My family, and extended family are all very musical. I grew up singing in church with my family. My extended family would get together for holidays and everybody would bring instruments, guitars, banjos, mandolin, fiddle, djembes etc. We would have sing-a-longs with bluegrass, gospel, and Christian music. So being a part of that initially just by singing, then wanting to be one of the ones playing an instrument, led me to seek out learning an instrument.
π―. Who are your biggest influences?
The Beatles, Dawes, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Switchfoot, Mumford and Sons, Vampire Weekend. Anything that has a folky type sound, or and
indie sound to it with a twist of country and rock.
4. What are your goals in the music industry?
I’d be happy with music being my sole choice of income, in whatever role that places me. Teacher, writer, performing musician, recording artist, session musician. I want to continue writing, recording and performing songs of my own, by myself or with a whole band.
5. Tell us about your creative process when you make new music.
I usually start with a chord progression I think sounds good, and different. If it is a generic progression used so much, I have to find something to throw in to give it something interesting. That, or a melody that comes to me that I record real quick. I like to come up with an interesting an catchy melody for the hook, or the chorus, something memorable. Then I build off of that and usually have a theme or idea of what I want to write about by then.
6. What is your all-time favorite song?
A Day in the Life by the Beatles. It is the last song on one of my all time favorite albums. It blends Paul and John’s writing so well, with the huge orchestration in the middle and ending parts. It sounds so chaotic, yet planned and I am still amazed at how good it sounds with the equipment they had then.
7. What is the best advice you have either given or received in terms of music?
Just because you don’t necessarily LIKE something you wrote currently, does not mean other people wouldn’t. You may even like it later down the road. Don’t let that keep you from creating, or releasing music. Just do it!
8. Proudest accomplishment?
Being able to write, record, perform, and release original music and people giving positive feedback. I’m hyper critical of myself and it takes a lot to get it finished and hope people like it. I want to inspire people with my music and getting positive feedback about things they take from my music is very accomplishing.
9. Just for fun! What’s been your most embarrassing moment so far?
I played half a show with my acoustic guitar unplugged from the sound system, so only people really close could hear it. I then realized it and plugged it in, made a big difference!
π0. Tell us about your lowest and highest points in music so far.
Lowest was a few years ago when I wasn’t doing a whole lot of playing any instruments, writing or recording. I decided to make it a priority, and make time for it, instead of many of the other things I was doing. Highest point would be the opposite that and writing and recording a 9 song album in the first six months of 2023. My album The Road, that came out 6/29/23
