This time, we get to know Kevin Michael Ozias, a multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer near Seattle, WA. His connection to music started very early after hearing John Bonham playing drums. The energy and command of the drums drove Kevin to start playing and then he expanded to pick up other musical instruments quickly. He learned guitar and bass, playing each of these in various bands. He began to write songs, record them, and produce them, then evolved & taught himself how to be a music producer. Kevin is on a mission to help other inspired musicians in their journey with his company, Innovaniac Music, where he collaborates, records, produces, publishes, and protects the artist.

1. Tell us a little about where you are from and what you are currently doing.
I am a multi-instrumentalist song writer and music producer from near Seattle, WA. My connection to music started very early after hearing John Bonham playing drums. The energy and command of the drums drove me to start playing and then I expanded to pick up other musical instruments quickly. I learned guitar and bass, playing each of these in various bands. I began to write songs, record them, and produce them, and then evolved and taught myself how to be a music producer. I am on a mission to help other inspired musicians in their journey.
2. What inspired you to start playing and making music?
I fell in love with drums at a very early age. I was born to be a drummer, and I had several drum heroes early on including John Bonham, Dave Weckl, and Greg Bissonette. I found out that I was a quick study on drums, and it opened up opportunities to play with much older bandmates early on. I spent hours and hours every day listening to music, and then learning how to play songs on drums. I eventually got involved in bands in high school and got more and more serious about music.
𝟯. Who are your biggest influences?
John Bonham, Dave Weckl, and Greg Bissonette on drums. Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, and Frank Gambale on guitar.
4. What are your goals in the music industry?
I want to produce great music for indie artists to help them publish songs that they can be very proud of.
5. Tell us about your creative process when you make new music.
I am a spontaneous creator. I immediately have an idea and I produce it on drums, bass, and guitar. I usually do 1-2 takes when recording, and it usually takes a few hours to create a part for a song. I prefer collaboration with other artists.
6. What is your all-time favorite song?
When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin is my favorite song. The reason is the drums. They are so unique and powerful.
7. What is the best advice you have either given or received in terms of music?
The best advice is to be true to yourself. Play the styles you love and don’t worry about what’s popular. I think artists become so focused on what is pleasing to others that they end up moving away from what they most love. I believe that artists should be true to themselves and find an audience that shares tastes.
8. Proudest accomplishment?
I was most proud of the first solo album I created. To me, it felt like proof that I could actually get it done on my own. On that first album, I wrote the music, played all the instruments, and even tried my hand at vocals for the first time. That launched me to a new level of confidence.
9. Just for fun! What’s been your most embarrassing moment so far?
During a live show, one time, I completely froze and couldn’t play a very technical song in front of a crowd of 500 people. The entire band stopped playing and stared at me. The crowd started booing us. I felt so embarrassed.
𝟭0. Tell us about your lowest and highest points in music so far.
My lowest point was being in a band that was starting to get traction building an audience, touring the country, and feeling like it had a bright future, only to have it fall apart due to band members fighting. My high points have been the various collaborations I have done in the past several years. I have made music with complete strangers as well as with lifelong friends, and it’s been a way to connect and grow artistically.
