Why I Love This NAS Song: “Time is a Weapon” by Julience

Julience’s Artist Page is HERE

From the moment the first notes hit, “Time Is a Weapon” by Julience seizes attention with an intro that feels both fresh and strangely familiar. Driving bass lines lock in with punchy drums and gritty guitars, a combination that instantly hooks the ear and signals to the subconscious: this is going to be something special.

Breaking free from conventional verse-chorus structures, the track plunges directly into its core thesis, refusing to waste a moment on setup as it lays out why time itself qualifies as a weapon. Julience’s rock vocals strike a perfect balance between clarity and raw emotion; every word cuts through the mix with purpose, while his delivery carries the weight of the song’s heavy themes.

Adding to the track’s intimacy is the fact that, according to his artist bio, he performs all the instrumentals himself. Each riff, beat, and melodic layer is thoughtfully composed, never overpowering the message but always enhancing it with tasteful precision.

Yet the true highlight lies in the meticulously crafted lyrics. The theme is relentlessly bleak, skirting the edges of cosmic horror and absurdist philosophy. Here, time is not merely a passive force of passage; it is an active agent, dismantling lives with neither malice nor mercy. It erodes human ambition until grand plans feel trivial, fades love into echoes, and even devours memory, leaving “not a trace” of what once was. Time is short, I guess, for those who do not know hope.

Beneath the surface runs a subtle but sharp critique of free will. We convince ourselves we hold control: scheduling days, chasing goals, and boasting of making the most of time. But the song frames time as the one truly in command, its fingers wrapped around a loaded gun we never see coming.

The repeated phrase “Time is…” creates a hypnotic, dirge-like rhythm, each iteration hammering home the point with the steady, unyielding cadence of a funeral march. It is a stark reminder that, in the end, time does not serve us; it simply claims what is its own.

Emerson, thank you so much for this — honestly, I didn’t expect to be this moved by a review. The way you unpacked the themes of the song, the cosmic horror angle, the critique of free will, the funeral march imagery — you didn’t just listen to it, you truly *heard* it. That means everything to me.

Knowing this came from a fellow musician makes it even more special. We’re all out here pouring our hearts into our music, often not knowing if it lands the way we hoped. Your words tell me it did. I’ll be checking out your music too — thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. 🖤

You’ve found something in this song that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own – the (subtext), the read-between-the-lines existential dread of the nature of time. It’s an awesome song, thanks for bringing out a new dimension I wouldn’t have experienced on my own – I have such a larger appreciation for this song now!

I love the structure of this song, mixed with the theme and how she utilizes time to captivate the listener it works rather well. this read gives a clear picture that makes it sound worth checking out. I like how it highlights both the sound and the meaning without overcomplicating it.

Julience delivers a haunting, thought-provoking track that blends raw rock energy with philosophical depth. The song’s unconventional structure and powerful lyrics make it unforgettable, exploring time as a relentless force that shapes, controls, and ultimately erases everything we hold onto. GREAT!!!!

This was a fantastic review of a song that encapsulates our current moment in creative history. Dark lyrics that push the bounds of absurdity, philosophy that wrestles for meaning but doesn’t come away truly knowing, but all of it done with expert craft and delivery. It’s a song of our time. And perhaps are songs are of our time, but they only feel a certain way when the moment’s right.

I enjoyed the review this week, it it the nail on the head for me, time is definitely a Weston and this track makes it so so poignant. It made me go listen to this track a genre I would not normally listen to, brilliantly worded and composed both track and review. Well done to both author and composer.

Great review where you really have analysed the lyrics and meaning behind them. I like the track as well as like you say it is rocky but Julience doesn’t let anything overpower other elements. The vocal delivery appeals to me as it reminds me a bit of The Waterboys.
